The Oscillatory properties of subnormal discharge with transverse magnetic field in hydrogen

Abstract

The subnormal discharge shows negative resistance [1]. It has oscillatory properties [2]. These    properties have been studied by Jana and Pradhan [3] in longitudinal magnetic field. In this paper the variation of oscillatory nature of subnormal discharge has been studied with transverse magnetic field for hydrogen. The oscillograms of current pulses have been presented. The frequency, peak-peak voltage, bandwidth, rise-time are studied. The power spectra of ionisation fluctuation are also studied. The peak-peak voltage increases but frequency, width and rise-time decrease with the increase in magnetic field. The power of ionisation fluctuation increases with magnetic field. The mobility of positive ions decreases under the action of transverse magnetic field for fixed voltage. Therefore, the transit time of current pulses increases and the frequency decreases.
